Singapore turns 50 this year and there is much to celebrate. Our city has evolved from mangrove to metropolis but as we look back on our economic tribulations and give ourselves a pat on the back, we must not forget our early business pioneers and the local business community that laid the foundation for Singapore's success.
2015 is expected to be a challenging year ahead. There are signs of a global economic slowdown, and many believe volatile energy prices and mounting debt could spark another economic crisis.
However, history has proven that Singapore SMEs are adaptable, resilient and responsive to change. Our secret to success has been the ability to avoid the complacency trap, constantly realigning strategies and corporate outcomes to drive the appropriate business outputs. It also means facing hard truths, being hardheaded and not accepting mediocrity.
While we remain optimistic and welcome the challenges of the next 50 years, let us take a moment to reflect, revisit and recalibrate:
- What it takes for businesses to build an enterprising culture and succeed in the next lap
- How to build a vibrant entrepreneurial environment and ignite future possibilities
- How to foster a conducive infrastructure to cultivate home-grown entrepreneurs
- The unique traits of celebrated local entrepreneurs and their success stories
